Jason Kissel, Executive Director of ACRES Land Trust, announced via e-mail that he is stepping down as of July 31 to become Executive Director at the Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center in Noble County.

The Amos Butler Audubon Society, an Indianapolis-based chapter of the National Audubon Society, has decided to take on a new name: Bird Alliance of Central Indiana. The stated reasons include concerns about the behavior of both John James Audubon and Amos Butler. This seems to be part of a trend across the country, though perhaps oddly inverted from the briefer and more commonly chosen approach used by the Chicago Bird Alliance, NYC Bird Alliance, and Detroit Bird Alliance, among many others. This move also lines up with an ongoing effort to change the names of birds named after individuals.

The Indy Star reports that Carpenter Nature Preserve in Zionsville is slated to open later this month. The Zionsville Parks website has a small note saying that the estimated opening of "Phase I" will be around 21 May. The 215 acre property was once a golf course.
3 May 2026 93 acre expansion of Lydick Bog Nature Preserve. The Shirley Heinze Land Trust property is in Saint Joseph County.
4 February 2026 The Indiana Natural Resources Commission approved the dedication of a new State Dedicated Nature Preserve in Owen County. Barnebey Woods Nature Preserve is owned and managed by the Sycamore Land Trust, and comprises more than 140 acres of mature upland forest. The property is not currently open to the public.
20 January 2026 The Indiana Natural Resources Commission approved adding the 25-acre Sundew Prairie to the existing Hoosier Prairie Nature Preserve.

Cincinnati Public Radio reports that southeastern Indiana's Oak Heritage Conservancy will be absorbed into southwest Ohio's Cardinal Land Conservancy. The merger is expected to take place over the next couple of months and will transfer Oak Heritage's sixteen preserves and three conservation easements, comprising more than 1,300 acres, into Cardinal's portfolio.
